I think there have been more sightings since Tufts. We saw one at Melbourne
(Yarmouth County) church back about 1987.

Summer tanager? The colour is right.

Robie Tufts cited three appearances in NS, one in October and two in April -
1913 and 1937. The 1913 one was found dead.

Also Hartlen Point, 2009. Can't remember what month.

The Robie Tufts note is downloadable from https://sora.unm.edu/node/17765.

I have a question for you birders. A friend in on Meadow Pond Lane, just as
you come out of Liverpool toward White Point, in Queens Co. has been seeing
a bird he can't find in his books. He is sure it is a Grosbeak. He would be
familiar with them. The bird is all red, like a Cardinal but it is not a
Cardinal, for sure, he said. It is travelling with a Rose-breasted Grosbeak.
Has anyone else seen anything like this?
He will try to get a photo but he said his camera isn't a good one and the
feeder is a bit distant. He hasn't seen it today, he did see it (them)
several times over the past week.
Marg
