Hi all

1) We have a real treat lined up for our next Pictou County Naturalist's =
Club Tues April 5 6:30 pm at the community room of New Glasgow Library, =
182 Dalhousie St. with two presentations by local members Steve Vines =
and Kathy Dodds. Steve is Trails Consultant with the NS Dept of =
Communities, Culture and Heritage and has done many great photographic =
presentations to our group in the past and this year will feature =
California natural spaces:
=20
"California, it's more than Hollywood and movie stars. Between the big =
cities, the real California is a land of natural wonders that inspired =
the writings of John Muir and the creation of the National Park System. =
Steve will share photos and stories from some of the iconic natural =
spaces of the State".=20

This will be Kathy's first presentation to our group:=20

Kathy will introduce you to a place she visits often and finds rather =
magical, in Kentville Nova Scotia, The Miner's Marsh. Opened in 2010 and =
visited by 100's of people daily, Kathy will share a photo journey =
around the marsh of some of the wildlife, flora and fauna."

These should be great presentations highlighting very different natural =
locales so come on out and bring a friend. Everyone welcome

2) May 3- Pictou Co. Naturalist's Club: Maritime Butterfly Atlas: what =
six years of surveying have shown us with John Klymko

John's presentation will detail the results of Maritimes Butterfly =
Atlas,
which had its last field season in 2015. He will discuss how the project =
has
improved the understanding of butterfly conservation in Nova Scotia and =
the
Maritimes, how the project will allow for the monitoring of changes in
butterfly distribution in the future, and what's in store for the =
project in
the next few years. John is a zoologist who specializes in insects. In =
addition to running the
Maritimes Butterfly Atlas John has also conducted surveys for =
dragonflies,
pollinators, and other insects of conservation interest throughout the
Maritimes.=20

John grew up in southern Ontario where he attended the University of =
Guelph
to do his MSc in fly taxonomy. In 2009 he moved to the Maritimes to work =
as
the zoologist at the Atlantic Canada Conservation Data Centre, a not for
profit whose mission is to assemble and provide objective and =
understandable
data and support decision-making, research, and education in Atlantic
Canada.

3) Reserve the date May 14 - Nova Scotia Migration Bird Count and Global =
Big Day=20
