Hi all,
I want to echo Kate's recommendation to report dogs off-leash whenever you =
can to provincial enforcement officers: 1-800-565-2224.
There were several Piping Plovers observed at Conrads in May 2015, but they=
did not linger more than about a week. Dogs off-leash and night time parti=
es are chronic problems at this beach and may be contributing or leading fa=
ctors in why plovers do not stay to breed. The officers are stretched thin =
in areas and reporting incidents helps target their efforts.
Thanks,Sue

Not to mention the sensitive dune vegetation...

Beach Warden please note:
The new boardwalk at Conrad Beach in Lawrencetown is complete and accessibl=
e now.=C2=A0 They did a really good job of it and it looks robust enough th=
at no puny hurricane will knock this one over!Unfortunately, the dogs off l=
eash are still a significant problem on this beach.=C2=A0 This morning ther=
e were no fewer that 6 running loose at the same time.=C2=A0 While four of =
the dogs where generally behaving and staying close to their two handlers, =
the other two dogs where totally out of control by their handler.=C2=A0 One=
jumped me by surprise from the side and then the other one jumped me at sh=
oulder height from behind and almost knocked me off my feet - handler says =
sorry but did not leash the dog when requested!=C2=A0 If I had been frail o=
r a child, there was significant potential for injury.=C2=A0=C2=A0=20

If the off leash dogs cannot be controlled on this beach, I would suggest t=
hat the Piping Plover information sign might as well be removed as I do not=
believe any piping plover could survive the constant onslaught of off leas=
h dogs, especially those that cannot be controlled by their handler, like h=
appened this morning.Paul MurrayDartmouth
