A good clarification, Jim, on the rabbits vs hare. It must have been quite
a sight to see young rabbits being dropped on a sidewalk. Nature in action,
but sometimes difficult to reconcile. Falling wildlife reminds me of the
story of the dead chicken that suddenly fell from the sky onto a windshield
of a car driven by a local minister in the Canning area (no, this is not one
of those church-going jokes). It took him by surprise (the minister), but
it must have been dropped by a hawk or eagle. I still think about it
sometimes if I'm driving in that area.

As for Mr and Mrs Robin, they are still tending the nest. A tree swallow
was also checking out one of our nest boxes today. Spring is definitely
here. Yes!

Bev's report below for Ontario would be of baby cottontail rabbits, not the
kind of rabbits/hares we have in N.S. Litters of cottontails spend a few
days as babies together in a nest, whereas baby snowshoe hares spread out
away from each other after birth. Cheers from Jim in Wolfville.

Years ago, I saw seagulls killing a nest of baby rabbits that way. They
flew up about 10 meters and dropped the young rabbits onto a sidewalk in the
midst of a busy bus stop area at Carleton University. The students were not
at all amused.
