I think it's a Flicker thing. We have resident flickers during the summer
and they seem to like to make a noise when they first show up.

APRIL 21, 2016 - In late afternoon I sat in my car for a half-hour close
to where I saw the nursing of red fox kits on Apr. 18, ne. of Port Williams.
During that time I saw nothing reportable at all, except some interesting
lichens on poplar trunks.
APRIL 22, 2016 - HAPPY EARTH DAY! As one of the Herald comics said this
morning, Earth Day should be celebrated every day of our year!
For the past two days, our apartment building in east Wolfville has had a
woodpecker of some sort hammering on something metal. Today I saw the n.
flicker hammering on our gutter on the top floor of our building.
A few years ago, a different flicker hammered on something metal at the
top of our chimney in a different part of Wolfville.
