Hi all=20
Just a reminder of a couple events coming up soon.=20

1) The next presentation to the Pictou Co. Naturalists will be "The =
Maritime Butterfly Atlas" by John Klymko on Tues May 3 at 6:30 pm at the =
program room of the New Glasgow Library.=20
John is a zoologist who specializes in insects. Over the past six years, =
John coordinated a group of mostly citizen science volunteers who =
collected data on butterflies in the three Maritime provinces. John will =
discuss how this project has improved the understanding of butterfly =
conservation in NS and the Maritimes, how the project will allow for the =
monitoring of changes in butterfly distribution in the future and what =
is in store for the project in the next few years.=20
John grew up in southern Ontario and attended the University of Guelph =
to do his MSc in fly taxonomy. In 2009 he moved to the Maritimes to work =
as zoologist at the Atlantic Canada Conservation Data Centre, a =
not-for-profit where the mission is to assemble and provide objective =
and understandable data and support decision-making, research and =
education in Atlantic Canada. Besides butterflies, John conducts surveys =
for dragonflies, pollinators and other insects of conservation interest =
through the Maritimes and has also be known to dabble a little in =
birding and I believe this week successfully added a mega rare =
Black-throated Sparrow at the Beaubassin Research Station (in the =
Tantramar area of NB near the NS border) to his NB birdlist. .=20

2) Spring Bird Migration has been in action now for about a month or =
more but next month it really swings into high gear and May 14 is the =
date of this year's annual NS Migration Count with Chris Pepper from the =
NS Bird Society as provincial coordinator. Details and a very handy =
list to tally your day observations can be found on the NS Bird Society =
website at: =
http://www.nsbirdsociety.ca/index.php/volunteer/ns-migration-count

Once again I will be helping with the Pictou Co aspect of the count and =
if you can participate as a feeder watcher of field observer please drop =
me a line so we can determine areas to be covered. kenmcken@eastlink.ca

Hope to see you all at Tues. evening's presentation. All are welcome and =
be sure to bring a friend.=20
