Hi all,

This Saturday June 11 we will be in Mabou, NS to host a Chimney Swift presentation and to watch swifts return to roost. The presentation will be at 7pm at An Drochaid (The Bridge) Gaelic and Historical Museum located at 11513 Hwy 19, Mabou. After the presentation, weather-permitting, we will walk up to St. Mary's Parish Church (41 Mabou Harbour Rd) to observe the swifts from ~ 8:30-9:30pm. This is the only known Chimney Swift roost in Cape Breton and a beautiful area to visit.

Then on Sunday, June 12 we will be in Middleton, NS to give a presentation at 7pm at the Middleton Fire Hall (49 Church Street), followed by a trip down the block to Middleton Regional High School (18 Gates Avenue) to watch swifts return to the school roost chimney from about 8:30-9:30pm. Claire and Bonnie have been doing roost counts in Middleton over the last few weeks with a high count of 513 swifts on June 2, so this is a great spot to watch. Refreshments will be served.

Last night was the final date for National Chimney Swift Roost Monitoring surveys across Canada, and we will share monitoring results as we receive them. Thank-you to all of our volunteer observers across Nova Scotia for your time and effort! Chimney Swifts are beginning to disperse from roost sites in order to begin nesting so please be on the lookout for activity in chimneys, barns, and other dark, sheltered places. If you'd like more information about how to look for and report swift nest sites, please get in touch with me!
