> JULY 13, 2016 - Another bald eagle nest-check, on West Long Island, =
Leungs=92 nest, at North Grand Pre, in early afternoon =97 both of the =
large fledgling or fledged? eaglets were present, one in the nest and =
the other perched just above the nest =97 neither adult was present.
>=20
> Then, even though the timing was bad tide-wise (high tide was 8:25 =
a.m.), I did a walk at Evangeline Beach from 2 to 3 p.m., west from the =
public stairs =97 sunny & hot, but there was a nice cool breeze from the =
north =97 nothing to report except a group of 4 crows foraging out on =
the intertidal flats, and one unidentified flying gull.
>=20
> At the T-junction at the north end of Grand Pre Road (on Long Island), =
purple loosestrife is now in bloom in the corner garden where it has =
been for decades.
>=20
> JULY 16, 2016 - The Leungs=92 bald eagle nest on West Long Island, =
North Grand Pre, still has the two fledged? or fledgling? eaglets at the =
nest.
>=20
> JULY 17, 2016 - Besides the few individuals of wild parsnip just north =
of the Acadia Arena, anyone who wants to see lots of this nasty species =
should go to the west end of Old Post Road in Grand Pre, where the north =
side of the road is loaded with blooming wild parsnip.

> JULY 18, 2016 - EVANGELINE BEACH =97 high tide was 12:30 p.m., and I =
started my beach walk eastwards for early-arriving shorebirds from the =
north at 2:30 p.m., from the public stairs, when the ebb-tide was just =
having started.
>=20
> I spent about 1.5 hours on my walk almost to the east end of the =
beach. I will report details later, but I saw quite a few flocks of up =
to 200+ peeps each =97 undoubtedly I double-counted some flocks and =
individuals, but I can safely say I saw 500+ total peeps (small =
sandpipers or plovers combined) and perhaps over 1000. Also at quite =
distant range, I watched some very nice areobatic displays of the =
flocks. Some of those displays looked to be evasive, i.e., very erratic =
with frequent changes of direction, but I never saw any falcons (merlins =
or peregrines)(merlins would have been hard to detect at the range of =
hundreds of metres).
>=20
> Today is very warm and humid, and, in addition to that discomfort, at =
aroiund 4:45 p.m. on Wolfville=92s Main St. downtown, I was bitten by =
the blackist and smallist deer fly I have ever seen! (identification =
definite, but the fly did not survive the incident!).
>=20
> After my beach walk and an ice-cream cone, I drove to the Leungs=92 =
bald eagle nest on West Long Island, North Grand Pre. Both large =
fledglings were present, but one of them was at the south edge of the =
nest-tree, where I often see one of the adult eagles perched. It=92s =
probably safe to say that these two =93fledglings=94 are now =93fledged=94=
. Last summer the presumed same pair of adult eagles raised three =
fledglings, and continued for weeks to feed them right at the nest-site.
