Thanks to Phil Taylor's post yesterday about the Harlequin Duck=2C I checke=
d out Canada Creek & Black Rock this afternoon.

There are now a pair of Harlequin Ducks at Black Rock although they were di=
fficult to find. There were also a few Guillemots=2C 1 Common Loon=2C an ad=
ult Bald Eagle cruising the shoreline. There was too much heat haze to use =
a scope to identify birds farther out.

Of much greater interest was a Humpback which breeched several times just o=
ffshore. The Bay was very calm which may have accentuated the sound of it h=
itting the water. I would think the sound could be heard on the NB side. I =
spoke to a local fisherman who said what he thought was a Minke surfaced qu=
ite close to his boat a week ago. He said he had never seen a Humpback in t=
he area before.
