Hi all
While driving home from Big Island, Pictou Co., this morning with my car window down, I became aware in my peripheral vision of something on my shoulder. It was a very large insect and I suspected it was a cicada. I pulled the vehicle over and extracted it from my shirt and found a plastic bag to hold it till I got home. It was very tough to pull from my shirt as it seemed to cling on. Before I got a good chance to examine it, Mark Brennan had texted wanting to know if I wanted to join him on a hike on the Middle River of Pictou dam.
Just after 2 pm we started our hike and as we were getting started Mark spied the second cicada for the day as it flew from the trail onto a branch of a dead tree. We admired it through the scope--a magnificent insect. Interesting to see 2 in one day.
When I got home I took a real close look at the one that latched onto my shirt before I released it. Interesting to see 2 in one day. If someone wants to take a stab at identifying it I have some photos. I think there might be 3 species in NS.
Might it be Dog-Day??

Cheers
Ken
