  <div>
   <span style="font-size: 12pt;">Hi All</span>
  </div>
  <div>
   <span style="font-size: 12pt;">Yesterday I planned to go to Keji to visit the Sisters<br/></span>
  </div>
  <div>
   <span style="font-size: 12pt;">but when I got there the wind was up and so were the waves.<br/></span>
  </div>
  <div>
   <span style="font-size: 12pt;">A good day to explore the shores.<br/></span>
  </div>
  <div>
   <span style="font-size: 12pt;">First I looked at the Keji Elm. It has pointed tips on its leaves so not<br/></span>
  </div>
  <div>
   <span style="font-size: 12pt;">an American Elm. Probably Ulmus glabra, which has a lot of common names,<br/></span>
  </div>
  <div>
   <span style="font-size: 12pt;">Scotch Elm being one of them. An introduced tree as an ornamental which has <br/></span>
  </div>
  <div>
   <span style="font-size: 12pt;">spread somewhat. A nice tree nevertheless and it taught me things about elms!<br/></span>
  </div>
  <div>
   <span style="font-size: 12pt;">Then I went to the Eel Weir - water low there! I walked down the portage to the<br/></span>
  </div>
  <div>
   <span style="font-size: 12pt;">Stillwater below the Dump. As I walked along there was a brood of Common Mergansers<br/></span>
  </div>
  <div>
   <span style="font-size: 12pt;">resting on the rocks in the river. I never saw them fly but their wings looked like they could.<br/></span>
  </div>
  <div>
   <span style="font-size: 12pt;">There was either 17 or 18 - I never got the same count twice. As I watched them a Bald Eagle<br/></span>
  </div>
  <div>
   <span style="font-size: 12pt;">flew up river about half the height of the trees. That woke them up! But the Eagle didn&#39;t<br/></span>
  </div>
  <div>
   <span style="font-size: 12pt;">attempt to get a duck lunch and kept on up river. When it passed the Mergs turned and swam down river.<br/></span>
  </div>
  <div>
   <span style="font-size: 12pt;">about the same speed as I was going and we both arrived at the Stillwater together. They they<br/></span>
  </div>
  <div>
   <span style="font-size: 12pt;">got to the Stillwater it was like recess at school! Chasing each other, diving and splashing,<br/></span>
  </div>
  <div>
   <span style="font-size: 12pt;">really having fun. They kept on going until out of sight around a bend. After a bit an Eagle came<br/></span>
  </div>
  <div>
   <span style="font-size: 12pt;">down stream -- twice as high as the trees. Didn&#39;t bother with the ducks but when it passed they all turned<br/></span>
  </div>
  <div>
   <span style="font-size: 12pt;">and came back up river to where I was.&#160; They don&#39;t like Eagles!<br/></span>
  </div>
  <div>
   <span style="font-size: 12pt;">On the way back I came across a flock of 8 Ruffed Grouse. I guessed 2 adults and 6 chicks.&#160; The chicks</span>
  </div>
  <div>
   <span style="font-size: 12pt;">were full grown or nearly so! &#160;A long time since </span>
   <span style="font-size: 12pt;">I saw that many Grouse together. </span>
  </div>
  <div>
   <span style="font-size: 12pt;">One of the ones I took as an adult tried a poor imitation of the broken-</span>
   <span style="font-size: 12pt;">wing trick but her heart was<br/></span>
  </div>
  <div>
   <span style="font-size: 12pt;">not in it.<br/></span>
  </div>
  <div>
   <span style="font-size: 12pt;">I wonder after the severe snows of 2015 if the Horned and Barred Owl population is down which<br/></span>
  </div>
  <div>
   <span style="font-size: 12pt;">allows the Loon chicks to survive as well as near full broods of Common Mergansers and Ruffed Grouse.<br/></span>
  </div>
  <div>
   <span style="font-size: 12pt;">And in a few years the extra suppers will do the same for the Owls!<br/></span>
  </div>
  <div>
   <span style="font-size: 12pt;">And after all that the staff gave me a badge! What a day!<br/></span>
  </div>
  <div>
   <span style="font-size: 12pt;">Enjoy the last of summer<br/></span>
  </div>
  <div>
   <span style="font-size: 12pt;">Paul<br/></span>
