Hi all,

Bird Studies Canada, Nature Conservancy of Canada and Harrison Lewis
Centre invite
you to join us for the 8th Annual "Wild for Waterfowl" count in the Port
Joli area. We need a team to count coastal waterbirds from Port Mouton Bay
to Sable River within the Port Joli Important Bird Area (
http://www.ibacanada.ca/site.jsp?siteID=NS004) and Migratory Bird
Sanctuaries.

Date: Saturday, 19 November 2016 (weather permitting)
Time: 10:00 AM - 3:30 PM
Lunch will be provided to registered participants (registration link
provided below).

Details: The Port Joli Wild for Waterfowl event will survey waterfowl,
other waterbirds and coastal habitats within the IBA and and Migratory Bird
Sanctuaries. This event has grown each year and is always a fun day for
beginner and expert 'waterfowlers' to come together to enjoy birds, learn
about coastal bird diversity and habitats, and contribute to monitoring and
collaborative conservation efforts in the region. All data from the count
will be accessible to the public through eBird.ca and shared with Canadian
Wildlife Service's Migratory Bird Sanctuary managers and the Canadian IBA
Program (www.ibacanada.ca).

Anyone with an interest in coastal birds is welcome, including beginner
birders and families. We will meet at the Harrison Lewis Centre where we
will provide an overview of common bird species, instructions, and the IBA
boundaries and give out lunches. Will will break up into teams with at
least one experienced birder to assist with identification and documenting
observations. Binoculars and spotting scopes available if needed.

To register as a participant please fill out your name and info at NCC's
Conservation Volunteer site:
https://events.natureconservancy.ca/al-event/port-joli-wild-for-waterfowl/
