I tried mixing some budgie grit in with my food before. Hard to say if the birds appreciated the gesture. I believe the grit I used was made of crushed oyster shells.

I am seeking advice on whether, since snow now covers the ground, we should try provide "grit" for our backyard birds and if so, is there a suitable product readily available?  I noticed the doves were often pecking at the sand between my patio stones in the summer- can't do that now.
