Nick and others,
Once you've looked at gulls for a few years you'll see that Thayer's is act=
ually quite different from Herring. There is a lot of material online about=
the identification of a Thayer's, so I won't go into too much detail, but =
in short, Thayer's typically show a dark eye and have outer primaries showi=
ng less extensive black than a Herring. The confusion species really is the=
dark end of the Kumlien's subspecies of Iceland Gull (Larus glaucoides kum=
lieni).

Wow! what field marks separated it from Herring Gull?

The most notable entry on the DoWL is our first ever Thayer=92s Gull. Mark =
