Hi all:
I believe that a lot of birds have just arrived on territory here in Lunenb=
urg County. Last night was the first real evidence of warblers at Fort Poi=
nt, LaHave other than yellow-rumped. There were two vocal yellow warblers =
and a northern parula. I heard an American woodcock winnowing outside of m=
y home and a veery calling, both of which were new. On my field trip on Sa=
turday, where we had 56 species, most birds were not vocal at all. I had n=
o ruby-crowned kinglets, which was disturbing. There was a group of least =
flycatchers and a yellow-bellied flycatcher together, which would denote th=
at they just arrived. There was only one blackburnian warbler, when normal=
ly we would've had a number of these birds. One stop that was always very =
productive along the Fitch Road no longer exists. It has been clearcut. T=
his was the traditional area that usually produced broad-winged hawk and ea=
stern wood pewee, both of which were missed on Saturday. It was nice to se=
e Canada warbler at three locations on the bright side of things.
