Yes, Jane, the European (or red) fire ant is Myrmica rubra (see 
http://www.antwiki.org/wiki/Myrmica_rubra for more into, and 
http://www.antwiki.org/wiki/Solenopsis_invicta for info on the tropical 
fire ant).
