Wonder if it was one of those =E2=80=9Cfishing=E2=80=9D spiders =
(Dolomedes). They get pretty big. Don=E2=80=99t know of any pure black =
ones, though.

Subject: [NatureNS] Big Black Spider
=20
Hi All=20
Saturday we were canoeing on a little lake - Skunk Lake
its named I think. They must have been running low on names
when the namers got to that one!
Anyway as we were coming in the gunnel of the canoe brushed
on a branch of a bush that was hanging out over the water.
Something black fell in the canoe from the branch. I first thought a =
mouse
but when I saw it closely it was a big black spider. About 3 cm long
with 6 big legs. I never thought we had spiders that big of any colour
in Nova Scotia. When we got ashore I took it in my hand and put it in
a bush. A pretty fellow he was - would make a good pet.
Does anyone know what species it might be? Are they rare
in NS or has my observations been spotty?
Enjoy the fall
Paul
