Along a stretch of about 10 utility poles bears had clawed at at least 6 of them. This was the most ripped up pole: https://www.flickr.com/photos/150605880@N07/37149171773/in/dateposted-public/
A closer look at it:

When I (5'2") stood against the pole my "claws" reached up to the top of the damaged area. All of the scrapes were at about the same height on these poles lining a gravel road. I wonder how long the wires and pipe will survive on this one? https://www.flickr.com/photos/150605880@N07/37787374292/in/dateposted-public/

Marking territory or possibly just taking advantage of the high-end easily accessible scratching posts?
