I'm not sure about gulls and crows, but at least Myrtle (Yellow-rumped)=FD=
Warblers and Tree Swallows have enzymes (wax lipases) that allow them to d=
igest bayberry fruits.

Hello:
I don't know about gulls but for some 30-40 (50 ?) years I had a Baybe=
rry (Myrica pensylvanica) which I had planted east of the garden. And every=
winter Crows feasted there until every berry was gone. Due to good growing=
conditions it got to be quite tall (>6') but evntually died.

I admit to being a little "gull blind" at times but when I make the effort =
to look they never fail to amaze (and confuse) me. Today at Highliner Foods=
I watched one half land/hover over a Bay Berry bush and begin to pick off =
the berries. Is this normal behaviour? I have never seen it before.
