We have 2 more for the DoWL to bring us to 133 and 22 behind our record bre=
aking DoWL last year. Both additions were first timers on the DoWL.

Addition(s) to the WBL

Addition(s) to the DoWL
Black-headed Grosbeak =96 Bev Crowell, Glace Bay. Nice to see it is still s=
urving.
Marsh Wren =96 Lyall Bouchard, Miner=92s Marsh, Kentville. That is one har=
dy marsh wren!

Here are some of our biggest misses far followed by how many times the spec=
ies has made the DoWL in the 10 years it had been tracked. Note that the Do=
WL was not tracked in 2009/10 so I=92m not counting that year.
Savannah Sparrow (10 of 10)
Black-backed Woodpecker (10 of 10)
Pine Grosbeak (10 of 10)
Northern Shrike (10 of 10)
Northern Saw-whet Owl (9 of 10)
Baltimore Oriole (9 0f 10) (You don=92t have any this year Suzanne?)
Hermit Thrush (9 of 10)
American Coot (9 of 10)
Swamp Sparrow (8 of 10)
Common Redpoll (8 of 10)
Dickcissel (8 of 10)
Tufted Duck 7 of 10 (6 of the last 7)
Ruddy Turnstone (7 of 10)

The Winter Bird List (WBL) counts species from December, January and Februa=
ry and are noted by a =93X=94 in the column on the spreadsheet.
The Depth of Winter List (DoWL) counts species from February only and are n=
oted with =93*X*=94.

NatureNS does not allow me to link to our winter bird page directly but you=
can find it following the directions at the link below where you can view =
and/or download the WBL spreadsheet. The downloaded version contains more y=
ears of data.

There may be a short delay before the spreadsheet gets uploaded but for mor=
e info or to view the WBL list or to download the full version of the WBL s=
preadsheet, visit our Winter Birds page under Library at http://nsbirdsocie=
ty.ca/
