The third Great Egret since Mar 15 has been reported near the causeway (Ham=
mond St) in the Town of Shelburne on Mar 16. See photo here:
https://ebird.org/view/checklist/S43711414

Winds have been generally westerly since Mar 14. Recent eBird reports of Gr=
eat Egret on Mar 15 were only up to New York State. As of today (Mar 17), t=
he one reported farthest north in the US Atlantic States is from Rhode Isla=
nd. It seems fair to assume that those arriving in NS recently flew across =
the Gulf of Maine.

Mid-March is 3 weeks earlier than the previous early date during the last f=
ew years, however it has been recorded in early-March in the past (All the =
Birds of Nova Scotia, Ian McLaren). See the brand new initiative and page o=
n the NSBS website tracking arrivals to NS:
http://www.nsbirdsociety.ca/library/resources/spring-first-arrivals

We are currently working on fine tuning this new page. An official introduc=
tory message will be send out soon.
