Hi all

=20

Join us tonight, Tues Apr 3 at 6:30 pm for the next presentation of the
Pictou Co Naturalists Club at the New Glasgow Library:=20

=20

The Sahtu Region of the Northwest Territories- a Naturalists Northern
Playground. Our guest speaker, Alasdair Veitch, was the regional biologist
for the Sahtu Region in the central Northwest Territories for 19 years and
he will give an overview of the landscape, the people and wildlife of this
little-known part of Canada that is five times larger than NS.=20=20

=20

About the Sahtu: This region is home to both the Mackenzie and Franklin
Mountains which forms the Mackenzie Valley with the mighty Mackenzie River
which flows through the region. Great Bear Lake, which is the largest lake
entirely in Canada, rests solely in the region. The Sahtu is made up of five
communities; Colville Lake, D=E9l=E1ne, Fort Good Hope, Norman Wells and Tu=
lita.
This region hosts a wide variety of wildlife, including caribou, moose,
sheep, muskoxen, martens, wolves, wolverines, and various species of bear,
fish fox and birds.

About Alasdair: Alasdair spent his high school years in Burin NL and
received his BSC in Biology from Memorial U. He did a MSc in Wildlife
Management from University of Minnesota and worked on a PHD out of
University of Alberta. He put this experience to work from 1994-2012 when
he was Wildlife Management supervisor of the Sahtu Region of the NWT. After
that he did a stint as Parks and Tourism officer with the NWT government
with a goal to enhance tourism, particularly aboriginal tourism in the Sahtu
region. Alasdair is quite involved in running marathons, long distance
cycling, swimming, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and hiking as well as
working with local hiking trails in Pictou Co.=20=20

=20

In his career, Alasdair has worked with many large game species including
woodland and barren ground caribou in NL, moose, bear, wolves etc as well as
species such as Atlantic Salmon and Peregrine Falcon. This should be very
informative and entertaining presentation. Come on out and bring along a
friend. Everyone welcome.
