Hi all
The second official Swiftwatch for 2018 was threatened tonight in Pictou Co with the arrival of high winds, rain and cold dropping temperature as I was getting ready for supper. The poor weather seemed to be restricted to Pictou Co on the radar from Env Canada. I ditched supper and left to see if any swifts were at the Temperance St School Apartments chimney and was not surprised to see 50 flying around when I arrived. I have no way of knowing if Swifts went in prior to my arrival. Anyway it was a long wet evening of observations but a very warm result with the exception of one poor swift that was snatched mid-air by e Merlin. Results are posted on eBird at
https://ebird.org/edit/checklist?subID=S45972385 Click to see the impressive total.
Should be good numbers on most nights for next week or so but on warmer clear nights the swifts will not be present before 20:30 and may not go in till after 21:00

Cheers
Ken
