Hi All,

The yard has for several days had flurries of shedding Bl=

dicate Black Cherry to flower earlier than Choke but with a broad overlap.&=

Hi All,

With regard to the question "Is this choke cherry o=
r black cherry" my answer is "Yes, without doubt it is either one o=
r the other." In general, photographs are not diagnostic. I frequently =
can not recognize photographs of plants which I have seen and known for 78 =

For a sometimes certain ID, one should have a=
flora, a hand lens and time to learn.

I vote for black cherry. The leaves look too long for choke=
cherry.
Offhand I would have said this small tree was a Chokecherry=
(Prunus virginiana). But after checking I see it is more likely a Black Ch=
erry (P. serotina) based on the leaves being fully out while in flower and =
the length of the hanging flower clusters. Which ID is correct? As the capt=
ions say, the leaves are ~3=E2=80=9D long.
