A few "for the record" notes.
Since June 12, when Anne first found them, there has been a family group of=
6 Gray (Canada!) Jays, at least 4 of which are sooty juveniles, in the woo=
ds along the west boundary of our property in Lower Rose Bay, Lunenburg Cou=
nty. My last record of a family group was during the Atlas surveys, 2006-20=
10.
The first juvenile Red-breasted Nuthatch of this season was at our feeders =
on June 22.
Red Crossbills began to come regularly to our feeders this year on June 15.=
As of today, there are 6-8 in the group, including 2 juveniles which proba=
bly fledged in early June.
A new feeder bird for us today, June 24: Cedar Waxwing. Actually three wer=
e feeding on wild strawberries on the edge of the driveway (earlier on elde=
rberries) and one flew up to the feeders to see what the Goldfinches, Cross=
bills and Purple Finches were so interested in.
