Alison and I were entertained last evening about 7pm with nine Monarch swirling and flying around each other over the milkweed field and butterfly garden. This is the best display we have seen in years. Usually two Monarchs will swirl around each other but we saw as many as four do it at one time. We know there were nine because we could count them all in the area in view.

In the morning we had surveyed as much of our trails in the field to get Monarch eggs. At that time we had only three Monarchs flying around. We managed to collect over 30 and bump up our collection to about 45. After the survey, I mowed the trails but in the process scared up more than three Monarchs. We share see if they all stay or it was just a party at the Bogan's milkweed field.

Like Angus, when we were at Miner's Marsh on Sunday, we saw two Monarchs in the milkweed by the foot bridge and the milkweed there is beautifully tall and lush compared with that in our impoverished sandy soils. Ours is just starting to flower.

We also have a couple of Tiger Swallowtails, White Admiral, Fritillary (G.S.), Cabbage Whites, Sulphurs, Common Ringlets, Various Skippers, and the Wood Nymphs are starting.
