Would this genus once have been known as Scirpus? S validus (a bulrush) also appears under Schoenoplectus validus in association with sewage pond macrophyte articles.

>> This is not my photo but we are wondering what this large reed(?) might be. It is in the Fort Lawrence sewage lagoons. The info I have is that there are only about four clumps, this being the largest and tallest. And it grows fast. Another photo I saw showed a warbler on a large diameter round stem. Probably common to other sewage lagoons and perhaps planted to aid water filtering.
