Hi all:
This is an email that I received which is out of my ability to provide answ=
ers. I'm hoping that someone on here can provide me with the answers so th=
at I can respond to this.
We have at least one pair of loons on Crooked Lake this season and we have =
seen one young loon with the pair. We have been wondering about speed limi=
ts on our lake and creating a wake zone for next season. I checked one web=
site which stated that =93There is a general non-posted 10 kph speed limit =
within 30 metres (100=92) from shore in the waters of Ontario, Manitoba, Sa=
skatchewan and Alberta, rivers and lakes in British Columbia and Nova Scoti=
a.=94
I have a few other questions:
1 - Is this your understanding on speed limits, and is this the regulation?
2 - Are you aware if speed limits have been enforced in Nova Scotia?
3 - Have you seen lakes where speed limits are posted in the lake, or at le=
ast near nesting loons?
4 - Who should we approach first, if we want to pursue this direction... Ca=
nadian Wildlife Service (CWS), Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Munic=
ipality of the District of Lunenburg (MODL), police (RCMP) to enact and enf=
orce?
Any thoughts or suggestions?
