Hi Paul,
=20
The Maryland address you see on the band can be used to report band =
information but most people no longer use the postal service to do so. =
As Ken noted, you can report bird bands through a web page. Simply =
search on the string REPORT BANDED BIRDS and you will find information =
and links to the appropriate web site. There you will be presented with =
an online form that you will fill out to report the information.
=20
You can also use the toll-free number 1-800-327-BAND.
=20
Bird banding in Canada is coordinated through the Bird Banding Office, =
National Wildlife Research Centre, Environment and Climate Change Canada =
in Ottawa. However North American bird banding is jointly administered =
by Canada and the USA and the central repository for all banding =
information is in the USA.=20
=20
As you=E2=80=99ll note from the web address above, the web page is =
administered by the US Geological Survey=E2=80=99s Bird Banding =
Laboratory. Bird banding in the USA has been lumped into that government =
department for a number of years.
=20
All the best,

Ken,
Thanks for the updated band info - I updated my photos to include it in =
the captions. I'm curious.....why does the band appear to have a USA =
contact address on it - specifically, it looks to me like "Lauren, =
Maryland with a 1-800 327-.... phone number? Is that a central =
registry? =20
=20
This is my fourth occasion finding identifiable bands or tags. A couple =
of years ago I got a tagged Piping Plover at White Point Lodge - he was =
well documented locally and authorities were on site at the time! In =
2018 I had 2 Piping Plovers Tag V4 and Tag N1 at Conrad Beach in May - I =
was only provided info for one of them, a Nova Scotia bird; then I had =
a Ring-Billed Gull at Salt Marsh Trail in November - ID'd as a bird from =
Massachusetts via University of Quebec by Prof. Giroux. I reported all =
except the White Point PP via "NatureNS".
=20
Do we have a local contact in NS Bird Society where you go to report =
band and tag info when I come across it next?
