Hi All,

The guest speaker at the next meeting of the Southwest Chapter of the =
Nova
Scotia Bird Society will be Natalie Thimot, a researcher at the Mersey
Tobeatic Research Institute. The title of her talk is =93Conspecific =
brood
parasitism in Red-breasted Mergansers: Cues parasites use to select =
nests.=94
Conspecific brood parasitism is an alternative reproductive tactic where =
one
bird (the parasite) lays her eggs in the nest of another bird (the host) =
of
the same species. The meeting will be held at the Yarmouth County Museum =
and
Archives in Yarmouth at 7:00 PM on February 26. Natalie has a B.Sc. from
Universit=E9 Sainte-Anne and an M.Sc. in natural resource sciences at =
McGill
University. Natalie has also studied the diet and nesting ecology of =
Roseate
Terns, banded American Black Ducks and Northern Saw-whet Owls at =
Universit=E9
Sainte-Anne, and monitored Piping Plover nests in eastern New Brunswick.

Admission is free and refreshments will be served.
