To my ear, these are bill snaps. We have three more-or-less common owls,
and I've heard hundreds of N Saw-whet bill clapping....and I don't think
your recording is of this species...it just sounds too strong. So...Barred
or Great Horned. The hooting is faint, but I'm leaning towards Barred.
