Dear All,
Last friday I sent an email entitled "Common Lady's Slippers, ice=20
barriers and soil slaking". I have subsequently realized that the slow=20
infiltration was not due to slaking of surface soil aggregates but to=20
frozen soil below the thawed surface soil.
The lot drainage tile has since then been running a steady 500 ml=20
per minute, night and day, as soil at depth thaws by heat from below=20
while for much of this week surface soil has been frozen and the fence=20
posts which steady the tiers of firewood are all firmly frozen in place.
