Hi all
I ran my first owl route last night, Apr 14, from Sunny Brae to Caledonia. I=
t was a good calm night 7C to 5C but was deficient in auditory stimulus. The=
 usual woodcock was preforming at stop 1 at the Sunny Brae Cemetery. By stop=
 5, I heard my first season peeper. At stops 6-10 there were one or two peep=
ers or wood frogs calling at each stop but far from a chorus, just a call he=
re and there through the survey period. =20
I heard a Black Scoter call as it flew over at drop 6 near the Pictou-Guys c=
o border.=20

And as for owls- not a single response on any of the 10 stops. This is not u=
nusual on this route as the woods which had been replanted after the Trafalg=
ar fire of 1976 has been removed in last decade after most of the replanted P=
ine became diseased. Sort of lends a bit of proof that no forest equals few o=
r no owls!=20

Cheers
Ken=20

 had Canada geese calling on two of the stops in regards to the barred owl c=
alls. A first for me in owl monitoring. =20
