Hi Paul:
The weekend weather was perfect. I am glad you were back in Keji saying
good-bye to the trout, Paul. I love to hear of your outings in the
natural world, though I am not sure I'd agree with the comparisons of
deer flies to radios! What station do you listen to?!
I was exploring Medway Lakes area to the south of Keji on this fine long
weekend in the company of 4 women who were so delightfully cheerful and
bright, and respectful of nature. Lots of laughs, both on the water and
around the fire in the evenings. The woods and waters were fairly
quiet. The land is just as boulder strewn as Keji, so watching for
rocks just under the water that can reach up to grab the canoe was a
nearly full time job for the bow person. We made it all the way to a
campsite on Allison Lake, rock strewn with a nice sandy beech and lined
with huckleberry, choke berry and tall red pine that spoke of wildfire
sometime in the past, lit by some unthinking human.
Loons were absent (or very quiet) except on Fisher Lake. Not a turtle
to be seen sunning itself anywhere, but I saw a fish jump occasionally.
Lots of Kingfishers still about. A few crossbills and some migrating
warblers.
I am grateful we have these provincially protected areas in addition to
National Parks. They are precious gems.
Let's hope that September brings more nice sunny warm days mixed with
reasonable rains here and there, enough for the trout and also to float
a canoe.
Cheers!
Donna
