If you go online to NatureInstruct-Dendroica-Canada-Northern Saw-whet =
Owl, you can hear several calls similar to the one recorded by Kevin. It =
is annotated as an aggressive display call.

Well, I've heard a lot of Saw-whets over the years, and I will agree =
that the voice sounds right, but I've never heard that long note at the =
end. It's almost certainly not another owl...the only one close would be =
Boreal.

Yes, it sounds good for Northern Saw-whet Owl.

Not a Barred Owl call I have heard before but I cannot think what else =
it could be. Pitch is very high but they are versatile vocalists. The =
only other one I am coming up with of similar pitch and quality is a =
short wail call of a Northern Saw-whet Owl. The intro notes are =
interesting.=20

This morning about 90 min before sunrise I heard what I first assumed =
was the solicitation call of a Barred Owl. Unfortunately it was quite =
distant and the only recording I was able to get is very noisy. I have =
cleaned it up some but since that often affects quality I have posted =
both it and an amplified but otherwise unaltered version in the same =
clip. I can=E2=80=99t think what else it might be but it is not quite =
like anything I have found online.

The call can be heard here https://www.xeno-canto.org/524494
