HRM Collection Areas

Changes to Waste Collection Services- July 1, 1998.

Effective July 1, 1998, Halifax Regional Municipality will introduce changes
to the regular waste collection service. Changes can affect the time you place
materials for collection, the quantity put out for collection, and how materials
should be prepared.

• Placement Time
  All residents are to ensure placement of materials curbside on their regular collection day
  no later than the following times:
  7:00 am ­ Bedford & areas outside Halifax / Dartmouth
  7:30 am ­ former cities of Halifax & Dartmouth
  
• Bag / Container Limit - 6 Bags or Containers
  6 bags or containers are collected during weekly regular waste collection (this includes
  up to a maximum of two containers or bundles of home renovation materials).
  Bags must be strong enough to hold materials, otherwise a metal or plastic container
  with a lid will be required. Bundles must be tied. Bags & containers when full are not to exceed
  25 kg (55lbs). Bundles are limited to 34 kg (75lbs) each, (up to 2 per week), and must
  not exceed 4 ft. in length.

  ie. stove, washer, furniture.
  

Please note:

Material may be placed for collection the evening prior to scheduled collection after 9:00 pm. All containers
& non-collectable material must be removed from the curb no later than 8:00 pm on collection day.

Recycling services will remain weekly in Halifax, Dartmouth, Bedford, Sackville / Beaver Bank, Kinsac,
Cole Harbour / Westphal, Beechville / Lakeside / Timberlea & remain on an every-two-week basis in all
other parts of HRM. Watch for more information about the new Organics Green Cart Collection Program
