Membership in the Federation is open to all Clan Campbell Societies, Association or like Groups which have received MacCailein Mor's approval.

The Federation was created in 1986 to enable the Societies to use heraldic arms as granted to the Chief by the Lord Lyon King of Arms in Scotland, for the Federation. The need for a coat of arms for use by members of Clan Campbell was made clear by the widespread use of the plain gyronny. This, however, is the personal coat of MacCailein Mor, granted by the Sovereign, through the Lord Lyon, to him alone, which cannot be passed on to anyone else.

Membership in the Federation in no way alters the independant nature of the various Societies.

The design of the coat of arms as granted is the plain gyronny differenced by a silver globe at centre point, to emphasize the worldwide spread of our Clan, and this globe is surrounded by a silver chain which represents our common bond of kinship and loyalty to our Chief."
