PLANT BADGE

Juniper
Gaelic: aitionn

The plant, which is Juniper, was worn in the bonnet to determine one's clan association.

CREST BADGE

The crests of the Murrays are the mermaid, the peacock's head, and the demi-savage. The mermaid is considered the legal crest by Lord Lyon, but the present Duke prefers the demi-savage. The words on the demi-savage are: ""Furth, Fortune, and Fill the Fetters". The words commemorate the capture of the last Lord of the Isles by the first Murray, Earl of Atholl, in 1475.
