Shell Craters

My father used to tell the story of a soldier in the first world war who was in a muddy shell crater muttering " Oh God, I wish I was dead".

Another shell came over, and landing near, blew him out of the shell hole into another one.

He was then heard to say " OH God, can you not take a joke !!??"
