His work on the Cambrai front was of fine quality. On two separate occasions he showed conspicuous gallantry in helping to dress and evacuate wounded under heavy shell fire and bombing, especially on 5th September, when his section was heavily shelled, and again on the 4th of October, when bombed by an aeroplane.
