144th Anniversary of publication of Uncle Tom's Cabin, 20 March 1856,
an influential anti-slavery novel, by Harriet Beecher Stoew.
She wrote Sunny Memories in Sutherland after visiting Dunrobin Castle,
but ignored the plight of clansfolk during the Highland Clearances.
Donald MacLeod wrote his book Gloomy Memories in Sutherlandshire,
an account of the Highland Clearances, in response to Stoew's text.
