Subject: Letter to members - Dues increase

At the last Annual General Meeting the Board outlined the financial situation in detail. We stressed that while CCN had financial difficulties we were still able to continue the service in the same efficient manner.

A number of members suggested we should increase dues which we have not done for five years in spite of improvements in service. It was the Board's hope the new wireless service would result in sufficient new members to offset our financial problems. However, this has not been the case and it will take more time to realize these benefits.

At this point our expenses are exceeding our revenues. In response to this situation and in order to continue our service, the Board has approved an increase in our dues $25 effective Nov 1st. At the same time we are initiating a fund raising campaign to assist with our service and to enable us to continue supporting those who are unable to pay.

We are convinced there continues to be a need for a community owned low cost Internet service and we sincerely hope you will remain a partner in this endeavour - remember we are Canada's second oldest community owned service. I should also add that Chebucto is a registered charity and is able to give a tax receipt for all donations.
