Good evening and welcome to the 2004 edition of the Metro Pool League awards banquet. We would like to thank the catering company and staff for a wonderful meal and recognize Alexander Keith's as our main sponser. At this time it is my pleasure to introduce to you the executive of the Metro Pool League for the current year; and ask them to come up to the stage. Let's give a big round of applause for Don Matheson and the members of the MPL League Champions Burnside. League averages from 550 to 699 are already on the tables which does not take away from their importance but are too numerous to give out individually. The players from 700 and above will be asked to come up to receive their trophy at the podium. This year the league honors an outstanding senior player from Burnside Snooker Club Ken Shea. Hall of Fame Award Our next recipient of an award is a player who has been an active member of the league for the last 25 years playing for a number of teams including Mic Mac AAC, Northend Pub and Spryfield Cue. He has also held the title of the Provincial 8 ball Champion in 1983. He is an asset to his team and the league and in time, he has shown a dedication to the league. He has an ability to play with the best and an enjoyment of the game which enhances the playing and enjoyment for himself and his opponents. Would you please help me welcome the latest member to the Metro Pool Leagues Hall of Fame,from the Spryfield Cue Joe Marsman. Most Consecutive Wins 1 Pt Player with 24 wins Dan Stark (Cue & Cusion) 2 pt Player with 25 wins Ken Shea (Burnside) Most Wins 1 pt Player with 86 wins Malcolm Greeley (Club Q) 2 pt Player with 99 wins Keen Shea (Burnside) Most Improved Player This player improved his average as a 2pt player from 320 in 2003 to 595 in 2004 an increase of 275 pts. A player very deserving of this honor lets welcome the Most Improved Player from the Sandtrap Mark Poirier. Most Improved Team An increase 0f 410 points from the previous year lets welcome the Most Improved Team captained by Joe Marsman Spryfield Cue. High Average Introduced in the year 2000 recognition is being given for high averages to the one point and two point players separately; 1 pt Player John Snyder Burnside 780 avg 2 pt Player Ken Shea Burnside 825 avg Rookie of the Year The rookie for the year 2004 is given to a player who qualifies as a first year player with the Metro Pool League. Shooting as a 2 pt player with an average of 732 this player played 112 games with 82 wins, lets welcome the rookie for the 2004 year from Dooley's in Sackville Dean Gillam Walter Johnson Award Player's Congeniality Award The Walter Johnson Award is in honor of Walter Johnson whose family all played the game and were instrumental in helping to support both the mens and the ladies leagues in the Halifax area. Walter was a playing member in the early years of the Metro Pool League and who died suddenly at an early age. The award is presented to a player who is named by the team selected by the league for this honor, as a player who shows sportsmanship and dedication to the team and league. The award this year is for a player who has been a member of the league for the past 15 years and has played with the Centennial Legion and the Sandtrap Bar and Grill and has volanteered many hours over the years in helping out at league tournaments and functions. Lets give a large round of applause to the player who is the team captain and I am sure the longest serving player of the Sandtrap this years recipient of the Walter Johnson Award, Don Gates. Most Valuable Player This player have been an asset to the league and has contributed his time and effort for the betterment of the league and the enjoyment of all players for many years. He always representated his team at a high level of competitive spirit contributing to the betterment of the league as a whole. He needs no introduction but lets give a big round of applause and a warm welcome to this years Most Valuable Player from the Burnside Snooker Club Ken Shea.
