The Ferris Wheel evolved from crude hand or animal-driven wheels
carrying only a few riders to George Ferris' big wheel at the
Chicago 1893 World's Fair over several hundred years. It's may
have been derived from the water wheel, or from animal or human-
turned power wheels where the animal or person walked up a series
of steps on the outer rim of the wheel in order to move water,
grind grain, drive primative machines, etc.
Here is an alphabetical list of books that deal exclusively with
Entertainment Wheels. Be sure to consult the other
Books sections
because many of those books may also have ride information. Look
under Videos, as well.

FERRIS WHEELS (1983)
By Norman D. Anderson and Walter R. Brown. This small-format
(22 cm X 21 cm) book of just under 60 pages, briefly traces the
"ferris" wheel from the 1600s through George Ferris's giant
wheel that caused all subsequent wheels to bear his name, to
today's modern versions and variations. *(Recommended. Despite
its shortness this book has many photos and an extensive
section on Ferris's wheel for The Columbian Exposition of 1893
Also pictured are The Wonder Wheel, Swooper, Zipper, Sky Diver,
Enterprise, Skywhirl, and double ferris wheel variations.
Detriments are lack of an index, and photo locations must be
looked up in a section at the back of the book rather than
having them accompany each picture.)
