This morning's (December 13's) children's event ran very smoothly with two evenly matched groups (Beginner and Novice). There were no "advanced" (rated over 900 Chess n Math) players. While this made things more competitive it also highlights that some of our scholastic players just do not play enough.
In the Novice section Michael Atlin, Brian Pentz and Gary Ng all tied for first with 4/5. In the ensuing playoff Michael was 1st, Brian 2nd and Gary 3rd.
The beginner section was won by Kyle Myers with Andre Gautier 2nd and Ben Todd 3rd.

This mornings childrens event at Carrefour was an enjoyable one though not without some..er..pecularities. The TD slept in and arrived only after a phone call and maintained a solid bleary-eyed expression all morning. Luckily (or not) there were only 13 kids in attendence so the organization was fairly simple (kudos to Mr's Kenney and Cunningham for setting up while I..er..the TD arrived).
Jason Kenney finished first in the CFC section with Anthony Federico second. In the beginners section Joe Cooper claimed first while Marc-Andre Chavy finished second.
Youngest player was Julia Cunningham (all of four years of age!). I noticed in one of her games she opened e4..d4...Nf3..Nc3..Bc4..Bg5 (pinning)...0-0-0. With a little checkmate and capturing with the horsey practice she'll be quite good.
