Albert Ede (1828) - Kim Tufts (1825) Latvian Gambit
1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 f5!? 3.Bc4 fxe4 (entering the most complex line where white will give up a piece for a bunch of pawns) 4.Nxe5 d5 (Qg5!? is also possible though riskier) 5.Qh5+ g6 6.Nxg6 hxg6 7.Qxh8 (safer was Qxg6+) 7...Kf7! (a thematic idea in this opening. Black will try to trap the white queen!) 8.Qd4 Nf6!? (Be6 is preferred. We were both out of book now.) 9.Be2 Nc6 10.Qa4? (probably a mistake as it allows Bc5..Qh4..Nd4..etc with an attack on the king but I didn't play that anyway :) 10...Bd6 11.c3 Qe7 12.h3? (far too slow) 12...Ne5 (Big plus black) 13.Qd1 Nd3+ 14.Bxd3 exd3+ 15.Kf1 Bd7 16.Qf3 Re8! 17.g3 Bf5 18.Qd1 Qe2+ (played after about twenty minutes of trying to talk myself out of playing it.) 19.Qxe2 dxe2+ 20.Ke1 Bd3 21.Rg1 Ne4 22.b4 c5? 23.Ba3 Bc4?! 24.bxc5 Bxc5 25.d4 Ng5 (Finally. This would have won at anytime in the last three moves.) 26.Nd2? (Not much left anyway..) 26..Bxa3 27.Nxc4? Nf3#
Kim Tufts comments, "Not exactly an artistic success by either player but livelier than most games :)"
