1998 Chess Challenge
Nova Scotia Here are today's (April 11) winners at the NS Chess Challenge. A smaller than usual group (31) took part but the majority of serious players competed. Interestingly all the kids from grades 1-7 were first time winners for their grades. The one sour note was no grade nines competed at all so we may have to enlist someone (Tyler?). Many thanks to David Kenney, Jason Kenney, Alex Fraser, Mike Conley, and David Cuningham for helping out.

A report listing all the winners, who qualify for the National championships, is online.
Details: The 12 grade winners win
the right to represent Nova Scotia at the
Canadian Chess Challenge in Winnipeg
on May 17-18, 1998. There the ten provinces
compete against one another as teams.
Rooms and some meals are provided for
all competitors. The players exchange
provincial pins and make friends from
around the country. This has been an
annual event since 1989 and is
sponsored in part by the Chess'n Math
Association, a National organization devoted to promoting chess and scholastic
achievement based in Montreal. For
