Simultaneous Chess Exhibition
Chess Master, Ed Urquhart,
E_URQUHA@tuna.stmarys.ca, gave a simultaneous chess
exhibition for the general public at the Chapters Bookstore in
Halifax on Sunday, March 15, 1998 at 12:00 noon Anyone is able to beat Mr. Urquhart will win a prize.
The event should received a lot of attention from the general public. On that Sunday, like many Sundays at Chapters was busy, and the exhibition is expected to took place down the center isle of the store. The Nova Scotia Chess Association and local chess clubs had information for the public at the exhibition on organized chess and chess books.
Ed Urquhart, E_URQUHA@tuna.stmarys.ca is Canadian Chess Master as defined by the Chess Federation of Canada and a student at St. Mary's
University. He recently won the Maritime Open Chess Championship and
last year led the Nova Scotian chess team to victory over the team
from New Brunswick. Ed is the highest-rated currently-active chess
player in Nova Scotia.
Ed Urquhart put on a fine show, playing 30 games with 26 wins, 3 losses and 1 draw, losing only to two of Nova Scotia's top young players, Jason Kenney and Alex Fraser, and one other to an unidentified gentleman.
The Chapters Bookstore is the Bayers Lake Industrial Park, 188 Chain Lake Dr., Halifax. The store carries the widest selection of chess books for sale anywhere in Atlantic Canada. Chapters has a chess club that meets monthly, the second Thursday of each month. The club is oriented towards the less experienced chess players. Mark Belanger is in charge of the chess club . . .
