Great Taste Coffee Shoppe Blindfold Chess Tournament

Format: 4 rounds, Elimination
Time control:    45min blind; 30min sighted

Rules:
Blndfolded Players cannot have sight of the board at any time and can either use a blindfold or turn away from the board.
Sighted Players are responsible for recording moves for both players, moving the pieces, and hitting the clock. Sighted players should also call the moves out clearly and without ambiguity.

Ratings:        Over 1800 always play blindfolded.

1700-1800 play blind against under 1700 rated opponents; sighted against over 1800

Under 1700 may play sighted.

30 move rule All games must go at least 30 moves (unless resigned,mated,or forced pereptual). Blindfold players who don't reach 30 moves will have lost on time. Otherwise, if 30 moves have been reached, the game shall be adjudicated for blind players. If no consensus is reached a draw will be called.

Illegal moves    Blind players are allowed one illegal move. On the second they forfeit. Sighted players who commit infractions may also forfeit, such as miscalling of moves, not recording, failing to hit the clock,etc.

Clarification    Blind players may ask for clarification of a piece but must be specific when asking. For example, "Is your Queen on c7?" is permissable. "Where is your Queen?" is not.
