  Important Notice

  The Bluenose Chess Club is in search of a new home. The club's contract with the Dal SUB has expired and at this time (Fall 2009) there are no plans to renew it. A search is underway for a new location and, until one is found, the club will not be meeting. As soon as a new home is found a notice re the new location and club hours, etc., will be posted on this site.
  
  
  
  Bedford Chess Club
  A new chess club has been formed! A home for a temporary chess club has been found at Mount Saint Vincent University. Albert Ede and Ken Cashin have begun holding regular events at this location and are calling the new club the "Bedford Chess Club".
  
  Meetings will continue on Monday nights this winter, starting January 11, 2010 and going until Monday, April 12, 2010. The location is the Seton Academic Centre (#1 on the map), room 532, 6:30 p.m. until 10:30 p.m.
  Admission is $2.50 per night.

  Edgewood Café Chess Club

  The Edgewood Café and Bakery is located in a new strip mall located at 250 Baker Drive in Dartmouth, which is in the new Russell Lake area commercial development between the new Kent Building Supply Store and the Sobeys store. You can access this location by taking the first exit off the Circumferential Highway past the exit for Penhorn Mall.

  The owners of the café are interested in having some casual chess play one night a week. During the summer they are willing to accommodate one day tourneys outside. The cost is only having some of their fine fare while you play. Wednesdays are good for Cathy (the owner of the café); the café closes at 8 pm during the week but she is willing to stay open longer if things go well. The café isn't large; it can easily take on three boards (maybe four) and still handle other customers requiring tables.

  The first Wednesday evening games at the Edgewood Café took place February 3, 2010, with regular meetings planned for the weeks following.

•   The DARTMOUTH JUNIOR CHESS CLUB is open to children from 6 to 16. It meets from September through June on Saturdays 1 - 4:00 PM at the Alderney Gate Library, Dartmouth next to the ferry terminal. Call Don Bidgood (902) 463-7667 or the Halifax Regional Library - Youth Services Department (902) 490-5748 for information. Adult help, either regularly or occasionally, is always welcome: non Chess players to assist with the registration desk, and Chess players to help with the young members. Call Don Bidgood if you can lend a hand.

• Shubenacadie - SHUBENACADIE DISTRICT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CHESS CLUB meets Tuesdays for grades 4 and Thursdays for grades 5 at Shubenacadie District School during lunch hours. Contact Eileen Dwyer-Crane for more information.

• Truro - CEC HIGH SCHOOL CHESS CLUB meets 3:00 Wednesdays and Fridays at the Cobequid Educational Centre.
  Former members and students from other high schools and junior highs are invited to come out to our club. We are also looking for adults who would be willing to do a little bit of coaching.

• Antigonish - DR.HUGH MACPHERSON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CHESS CLUB meets Monday afternoons from 2:45 to 4:30pm. Cindy Murphy (tel.# 902-863-0218) is organizing it with the help of teacher Mr. Bob Rodgers and support of high school student, Jonathan Taylor. At the moment children from grades 1 to 6 from the elementary school play one afternoon per week (Monday). The enrolment is approximately 24 with a core group of 14 regulars.

• Bridgewater - BRIDGEWATER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CHESS CLUB meets Thursday's at lunch time in the library of Bridgewater Elementary School. Contact Mitch Landry 902-543-9197.

• Berwick - The Berwick Chess Club meets every Wednesday afternoon from 3:15 - 4:30pm at the community meetingroom above the RCMP building in Berwick. The chess club instructor is Tony Chaulk.
