2011–2012 Events:
Feb. 6 The Bluenose held a Game in 5 minute Blitz tournament this evening. The winner of the event was Jim Gilks with a 13 point result in this nine player double round-robin tournament. Gary Phillips finished close behind with 12.5 points for second place. Third place went to David Kenney with his 12 point result.
Jan. 30 Gary Phillips finished first in the G15 round robin event with 4/4. Five people came out to play.
Jan. 23 (unscheduled event) Blitz: Gary Phillips was first with 11/12 points. Tied for 2nd/3rd place were David Kenney and Ken Cashin, each with 8.5/12. Seven players participated.
Jan. 16 David Kenney went undefeated and finished first with 4/4. Gary Phillips was 2nd with 3/4. Ten people participated, including a new member, Jeremy Monette.
Jan. 9 (unscheduled event) G15: Gary Phillips was first with 6/6, followed by Harold Uuetoa in second with 4/6. Ten people came out to play.
Dec. 19: G15 Results: Great turnout tonight with 12 players and two newcomers: Lorina Mosanu and Alexei Vichnevetski. Alan Kahn and Harold Uuetoa tied for first, scoring 5 points each in this six-round event. Harry Mah tied for second, with 4 points.
Dec. 12: G15 Results: Gary Phillips and Harold Uuetoa tied for first, scoring 4 points each in this five-round event. Brian McKay and Phil Boyle tied for second, with 3.5 points each.
Dec. 5: Seven people came out for the Blitz tournament. Gary Phillips was first with 10 points. Ken Cashin was second with 9 points. Next week is chess lecture/casual chess night.
Nov. 28: Gary Phillips won the Fischer Random Active with a perfect score of four points. David Kenney and Keith Pottie tied for second with three points each. Nine people came out to play. Blitz tournament (5 minute games) scheduled for next week, December 5, 2011.
Nov. 21: Brian McKay was in fine form at the rapid tournament game in 15 minutes. He notched a perfect score, winning all 6 six of his games. Gary Phillips was close behind and placed second with 5 points. Eleven people came out to play.
Nov. 7: Eleven people came out for the Blitz tournament November 7th. Gary Phillips placed first and David Kenney was second. Next week the club will hold a book fair. People are welcome to bring chess books for sale and trade.
Oct. 31: Six people came out on Halloween to play in a G25 tournament at the Bluenose Chess Club. Tied for first place in this four-round event were Gary Phillips, David Kenney, and Harold Uuetoa, with 3 points each.
Oct. 24: A total of twelve players came out this evening for the Active Chess Tournament held at the Bluenose Chess Club. This four round event featured a time control of Game in 25 minutes. The winner of the tournament was David Kenney who finished the tournament with four points after defeating all of his opponents. Jim Gilks and Walter MacNeil (from Sydney) tied for 2nd-3rd place each with three points. Conrad MacNeil was close behind with a 2 1/2 point result. Thanks to everyone
who came out for this event. Another "Game in 25 minutes" active tournament is planned for next Monday evening.
Oct. 17: Eleven people attended and the club held elections for officers in the Bluenose Club executive. Results:

Secretary Treasurer: David Kenney
Student Liaison: Devin Podgorski
The members also took part in a group analysis of a grandmaster chess game which featured a "Greek gift" bishop sacrifice. Thanks to David Kenney for putting on and leading the event.
Oct. 3: Eight people entered the Blitz tournament tonight. When the dust settled, Gary Phillips won clear first with 12 points. David Kenney and Ken Cashin shared the 2nd-3rd spot with 10 points each.
Sept. 26: Gary Phillips won the Gambit Active at the Bluenose club tonight with 4/4 points. Harold Uuetoa was second with 3 points. Eleven people came out to play.
Sept. 19: Ten people came out to the Bluenose Chess Club for the first event of the club's 2011-2012 season: an Active tournament (Game in 25 minutes). Ken Cashin won first place with a score of 3.5/4.
